Iron-free aluminum sulfate is a white crystal that is easily soluble in water but insoluble in alcohol. The aqueous solution is acidic. The dehydration temperature is 86.5°C. When heated to 250°C, it loses crystal water. Anhydrous aluminum sulfate starts to decompose when heated to 300°C. The anhydrous has white crystals with pearl luster. The appearance is white granular, lumpy or powdery.
