P-Cresol is a colorless or yellowish liquid with a distinctive phenolic flavor. It is an acidic substance that reacts with a base to form a corresponding salt. It is soluble in alcohols, and slightly soluble in water. It is the raw material for the production of antioxidants 2, 6-di-tert-butyl-p-cresol and rubber antioxidants. Meanwhile, it is also an important basic raw material for the production of pharmaceutical TMP and dye-based Crestor sulfonic acid.
P-Cresol is an intermediate of the fungicide methyl phosphorus, the insecticide fenvalerate, and is also an intermediate of the antioxidant additive 2, 6-di-tert-butyl-4-methylphenol and p-hydroxybenzaldehyde.
