The iron-free aluminum sulfate solid product is white granular or blocky, white shiny crystals. It is stable in the air. When heated, it expands violently and becomes a spongy substance. When heated to red heat, it decomposes into sulfur trioxide and aluminum oxide. Iron-free aluminum sulfate is a widely used industrial reagent, often confused with alum (potassium aluminum sulfate dodecahydrate). Aluminum sulfate is commonly used as a flocculant in drinking water purification and sewage treatment equipment, and is also used in the paper industry.

In the paper industry, it is used as a precipitating agent for rosin gum, wax emulsion and other rubber materials, as a flocculant in water treatment, and as a retention agent for foam fire extinguisher, raw materials for manufacturing alum and aluminum white, oil decolorization, deodorization agent, and raw materials for some drugs. It can also manufacture artificial gemstones and high-grade ammonium alum. Products with arsenic content not greater than 5mg/kg can be used as flocculants for water treatment.
1. Used as paper sizing agent in the paper industry to enhance the water resistance and impermeability of paper;
2. After soluble in water, fine particles and natural colloids in water can be condensed into large flocculent, which can be removed from the water, so it is used as a coagulant for water supply and wastewater
3. Used as turbidity water purification agent, also used as precipitating agent, fixing agent, filler, etc. It is used as raw material (astringent) in cosmetics to suppress perspiration;
4. In the fire fighting industry, foam extinguishing agent is formed with baking soda and blowing agent;
5. Analytical reagent, mordant, tanning agent, oil decolorizing agent, wood preservative;
6. Stabilizers for pasteurization of albumin (including liquid or frozen whole eggs, white or yolk);
7. Can be used as raw materials for the manufacture of artificial gems and high-grade ammonium alum, other aluminates;
8. In the fuel industry, it is used as a precipitating agent in the production of chrome yellow and lake dyes, and also plays the role of color fixation and filler.
