Sodium sulfate is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula Na2SO4, a white solid that is soluble in water. Its solubility in water increases with temperature and is neutral or slightly alkaline. It is mainly used as a filler in the manufacture of powdered household laundry detergents, in applications such as sulphate pulping in pulp manufacture, and in the manufacture of highly alkaline sulphides.

1. In the cleaning industry
Sodium sulfate is used as a filler in the cleaning industry, especially in washing powders mixed in detergents. However, its use is greatly restricted due to its harmful nature to the environment.
2. Pulp production
The wood chips are heated with sodium sulfate to form sodium sulfite, which breaks down the cellulose bonds in the wood. So the wood scales become softer and easier to form into pulp.
3. In the textile industry
Sodium sulfate is an ideal compound for dyeing textiles because it does not corrode steel circuits or create cathodes on fabric fibers, so the dye can penetrate the fibers more efficiently and evenly. In Japan, sodium sulfate is widely used in the fabric manufacturing industry.
4. Glass production
Sodium sulfate prevents the formation of residues in molten glass during the refining process and is therefore also used as a glass surface. Na2SO4 acts as a smoothing agent in molten glass production, removing small bubbles and preventing molten glass from foaming during the refining process.
5. In the healthcare industry
Sodium sulphate is one of the compounds we use as a laxative. Currently, this sodium salt component is gradually being replaced by substances with more complex compositions. Sodium sulphate in medical treatments is used as a compound to cleanse the intestines before certain procedures are applied.
