Marutsu Petrochemical Will Close Its Chiba Ethylene Plant in 2026
Marutsu Petrochemical announced on April 1 that it will close its ethylene plant in Chiba, Japan, in 2026 while optimizing its Keiye ethylene plant, a joint venture with Sumitomo Chemical.
Marushin Petrochemical said that due to the severe market environment such as the oversupply of ethylene in the world and the reduction of domestic ethylene demand in Japan, ethylene plants in Japan continue to operate at low load. The above decision was made in order to enhance competitiveness.
Marushan Petrochemical Chiba Ethylene plant was started in April, 2009, with an ethylene production capacity of 525,000 tons/year.
The Keiye Ethylene Plant, a joint venture between Marutsu Petrochemical (55%) and Sumitomo Chemical (45%), started construction in December 1994 and has an ethylene production capacity of 768,000 tons/year.
