Sasol Lays Out Local Renewable Fuel Supply Chain
Recently, South African petrochemical giant Sasol signed a joint development agreement with global mining company Anglo American and its subsidiary De Beers to pilot the production of feedstock for renewable diesel, laying out the establishment of a renewable fuels value chain in South Africa.
Dr. Sarushen Pillay, Executive Vice President, Business Construction, Strategy and Technology Portfolio, Sasol, said: “Renewable diesel is transformative. It meets the technical standards of conventional diesel while reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and its use in existing equipment and machinery delivers on the promise of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. We are working with Anglo American to look at developing a local, cost-effective sustainable feedstock supply chain to produce renewable diesel from vegetable oils, providing a high quality, sustainable solution for a low carbon future.”
Alison Atkinson, Anglo American's director of projects and development, said the partnership with Sasol can help drive the 2024 commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, helping to maintain a healthy environment by creating carbon-neutral operations. The partnership has seen De Beers provide more than 20 hectares of land for growing trial ingredients.
