Ammonium sulfate abbreviation SA, molecular formula: (NH4)2SO4, soluble in water, insoluble in ethanol. The aqueous solution has a spicy and salty taste. The decomposition temperature of ammonium sulfate is 280 ° C, and the released ammonia gas becomes acid ammonium sulfate NH4HSO4. The change of temperature has little effect on the solubility of ammonium sulfate in water, and its relative hygroscopicity is small.
Ammonium sulfate is a quick-acting fertilizer, used for general crops, and can be used as top dressing, base fertilizer, and seed fertilizer, especially in areas where the soil is deficient in sulfur. However, for acidic soils, it must be applied in combination with lime (not mixed). In addition, it can also be used as welding flux, fabric fire retardant, salting out process of pharmaceutical production, catalyst for food sauce color, yeast culture, accelerant for acid dye dyeing and deliming agent for leather, etc. Application on neutral and stony soils tends to cause soil compaction. Long-term application of ammonium sulfate increases soil acidity.
