The appearance of sodium nitrite is white or slightly yellowish crystal, the relative molecular mass is 68.99, and the specific gravity is 2.168. Odorless, slightly salty, easily deliquescence, soluble in water, melting point is 271℃, decomposition temperature is 320℃, it has both oxidizing and reducing properties. It will be slowly oxidized to sodium nitrate in the air, and it is easy to form a diazonium compound at low temperature.
