Hexamine is a colorless, shiny crystal or white crystalline powder, almost odorless, can burn in fire, produces a smokeless flame, and the aqueous solution shows an alkaline reaction. This product is easily soluble in water, soluble in ethanol or chloroform. Hexamine is dangerous to burn in case of open flame. It decomposes under heat and releases toxic nitrogen oxide fumes. It can form explosive mixtures when mixed with oxidants. It is corrosive.
